On Thursday, Palmeiras staged a historic comeback against Liga de Quito by winning 4-0 at home in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores semifinals, held at the Allianz Parque in Brazil. The goals for the rout were scored by Ramón Sosa and Bruno Fuchs at the 20' and 49' minutes of the first half, respectively, while Raphael Veiga found the net at the 24' and 37' minutes of the second period. With this result, the Verdao managed to turn the series around after the 0-3 defeat in the first leg in Ecuador and will face Flamengo on Saturday, November 29th to determine the winner of the continent's most prestigious tournament. In the first half, the Brazilian team was vastly superior, but they needed to show great dominance to reverse the adverse result obtained in Ecuador. Palmeiras managed to go into the break with a 2-0 lead and set the stage for the comeback. At the 20-minute mark, Ramón Sosa deflected a precise cross from Allan with his head, deceived goalkeeper Alexander Domínguez, and opened the score. Towards the end of the initial period, with stoppage time already over, defender Bruno Fuchs pounced on a rebound inside the area and unleashed a powerful volley to extend the lead. In the second half, the 'Verdao' continued with the same pressure and, through Raphael Veiga, equalized the series 3-3 on aggregate. In this way, the team led by Abel Ferreira erased the rival from the pitch and left evident the hierarchical power of the squad.
"The 30-year-old midfielder combined with Vitor Roque and won the duel against the Ecuadorian goalkeeper. At the 33rd minute, an impressive play by Allan, who left rivals in his path towards the area, was fouled by Carlos Gruezo, and the Colombian referee Wilmar Roldán did not hesitate to sanction a penalty for the Brazilians. The one in charge of executing the shot from the spot was Veiga himself, who with coolness placed the ball in the center of the goal, while Domíngues threw himself towards the left side."
